Erich Fromm
This is a brief consultation in which we discuss patient-therapist fit, fees, availability, etc. so that we can decide together if we’re a good fit for therapy. I do not accept clients who I believe I cannot be helpful to, and if this is the case, I will refer you to others who work well with your presenting concern. If we agree that we’re a good fit we’ll move forward we will then schedule an Initial Assessment.
An Initial Assessment is a 50 minute appointment focused on assessing symptoms and treatment planning. We’ll conduct a clinical interview of your current and past symptoms, present concerns, and identify ideal outcomes. This appointment lays the groundwork for therapy. The result of this assessment is a set of treatment recommendations. Possible recommendations are for brief therapy, long-term or open-ended therapy, or referral to additional services.
Timing and pacing is different for different people. Therapy can be brief (ex. 4-6 sessions) and solution-focused. This model can be oriented to raising a person’s awareness of sources of motivation and begin a process of change. Brief therapy is best suited for people who are moving through a difficult life event or encountering a new kind of problem. Brief therapy can help with developing new coping skills, reorienting the self toward growth, and building upon your strengths.
Long term therapy can vary. Therapeutic models such as CBT-I or CPT typically require at around 12 sessions to complete and be effective. Some people also benefit from long-term or open-ended therapy to make sustained changes of deeply ingrained behavioral or relational patterns, working through trauma, and engaging in deeper self-exploration. These sessions can occur weekly, biweekly, or even monthly depending on the severity of symptoms and mental health. After each appointment you will be charged a fee of $250.
Ending individual therapy can bring about a range of emotional responses. For those clients who have achieved their goals, terminating therapy is important for empowering the client to go forth with new found self-knowledge and more dynamic coping skills. Termination of counseling services is gradual and never abrupt
Life can be busy and it's not always easy to make it to in-person therapy sessions. This practice is completely virtual so that you can connect from the comfort of your own home. I use the Simple Practice platform which is secure, private, and convenient.
